The Vapir Prima Portable Vaporizer User’s Product Review

It’s been well over a year now that I have been using my Vapir Prima portable vaporizer and it is time to share my experience with you.

I picked up a Prima at Vapir HQ in San Francisco, CA in September 2015. Just before it was officially launched and I’ve been testing it ever since.

Let me walk you through the details…

The First Impression of the Vapir Prima Portable Vaporizer

When I first saw the Vapir Prima, I wasn’t sure what to think of it. It is a quite unique vaporizer, but it didn’t take me long to make up my mind and warm up to it, though.

I won’t go into all the details of the product and how it works here. If you’d like to start with that, feel free to check out our Vapir Prima Product Spotlight here.

Using it for the first time was pretty simple and straightforward. Some vaporizers take a little time to work out, but the Prima was super easy for me to get started with.

It perfectly fits into my palm and pocket and feels good in my hand. This is a truly portable vaporizer, that you can carry around comfortably.

What’s in the Box?

The Vapir Prima Portable Vaporizer Kit includes:

Vaporization Unit
Herb Scoop
Plug Brush
Cleaning Tool
Flute Style Mouthpiece
Mesh Screens (2pcs)
Cap Screens (2pcs)
Charging Cord
Cap Sleeve
Lithium Battery
Power Supply
Battery Charger

The Design

After using it for a while, I started to appreciate its design more and more. Having the cap sitting on the vaporizer at all times makes it easy to preload the chamber, put it in your pocket and carry it around. So you have the vaporizer handy when you need it.

The vaporizer is designed to be very modular. In other words, you can take it apart easily and access the parts that need cleaning very quickly.
Actually, based on my personal experience, this is one of the easiest portable vaporizers to clean. We have a post on the simple process of cleaning the Prima, you can check it out here.

1. The Prima comes with a plug brush, that slides into the stainless steel pipe. You can slide this brush into the pipe after every use and store it like that. This way, you always keep your pipe clean as you are using it.

2. The pipe is removable. It is very quick and simple to remove, and you can soak it or clean it any ways you wish.
Its brushed aluminium body makes it very robust and doing an excellent job at protecting the vaporizer. I have dropped it onto concrete and tiles multiple times. You can see the bruises on it.

I have to admit, the Prima vape is pretty solid and keeps working perfectly despite my lack of carefulness. I can comfortably tell you that, they are surely made to last and backed up with a 5-year warranty (2 years on the battery).

All the 4 colours (black, blue, orange and silver) are pretty awesome. When I was at Vapir, before the launch they only had the silver colour available for me. Since then, I checked out all the other colours at VapeFuse and they are all really well done.

Battery

The Prima, just like other high-end portable devices, such as the Storz & Bickel Crafty, can do about 5 sessions on a battery, before you need to put it on a charger. After extensive use, the battery drops in performance over time so, it is really more like 3 sessions and off it goes to the charger.

After the 3rd session, the battery still has some power in it, however, it takes longer to heat up to the set temperature. Once it does heat it up, it will take its time to heat back up after each draw on the vape. So in short, it is really only 3 sessions. On a fresh battery, the unit should heat up in about a minute or so.

I don’t find the battery to be a problem, though, as the battery does charge up reasonably quickly. In about an hour or so, it is fully charged.

The Vapir Prima has a replaceable battery, so when your battery gets too tired, you can always replace it. You don’t have to replace the whole device, or send it in for service, like you would with devices with inbuilt batteries.

The other good thing with the replaceable battery is that you can always have a spare one on hand and use that instead if you run low on power.

Temperature Settings

The Vapir Prima has 4 temperature settings, ranging from 176 Celsius (350F) to 204 Celsius (400F). This enables you to use the device for a variety of herbs. I use it mostly on level 3 (195 Celsius or 385F).

The unit does not get too hot to hold during a single session, however, if you use it continuously for a few cycles, it will. In that case, using the supplied silicone cap sleeve will help to hold the vaporizer comfortably. No issues there.

Just like with many other portable vaporizers, the mouthpiece may also heat up with extended use. If you use it frequently, and often for more than one sessions at the time, you should seriously consider getting the bubbler with it.

The mouthpiece and the bubbler can easily be changed even mid-session, and the bubbler never heats up like your mouthpiece does. Also, if you prefer a cooler and cleaner vapor experience, then the bubbler can certainly be a great addition to your vaporizer.

Vapor Quality

The Prima produces very flavourful vapor, as you would expect from a high-end device. After more than a year of constant use, it is still producing outstanding quality vapor and there are no drawbacks I can mention here. Drawing on the device is comfortable, the airflow is ideal.

The top screen might get blocked up after 5 – 10 sessions, depending on what herbs you use. I simply take it out and wipe it off every now and then. I detail all this process in the Prima cleaning post here.

As I mentioned above, if you are someone who prefers enhancing their vaporizing experience, a bubbler is a great little addition to have with your device.

Chamber

The chamber on the Prima is a perfect size for up to 2 users at the time. You can choose to use the Prima with or without the liquid pad on the bottom of the chamber, depending on your preference and the amount of herbs that you like to use.

It is a very smart design, you can preload the chamber, put the cap on and chuck it into your pocket. It is ready to be used any time, as soon as it’s out of your pocket. You just turn the device on and you are ready to vaporize.

I have only used the Prima with dry herbs, however, it can also be used with oils and concentrates.
