German pioneer vaporizer manufacturer, Storz & Bickel has been acquired by the publicly traded Canadian cannabis giant, Canopy Growth Corp. for 145 million Euros.

Storz and Bickel designed the infamous Volcano vaporizer over 20 years ago and have produced the Volcano Digit and Plenty desktop vaporizers as well as the Mighty and Crafty portable vaporizers since then.

The Volcano and the Mighty both have medically approved versions under the “Medic” branding, making them eligible for medical patients around the world where medical cannabis is legal.

Based in the southern German city of Tuttlingen, near the Swiss border, Storz and Bickel has become one of the best known, if not ‘the’ best-known vaporizer manufacturer around the world.

As the makers of some of the most well-known herbal vaporziers, they hold 17 filed patents and seen as market leaders in the herbal vaporization space.

The acquisition is expected to make Canopy Growth the leader in the ‘high-margin’ vaporization category, according to Canopy co-CEO and Chairman Bruce Linton.

“Leveraging their IP into the tech-heavy vaporizer designs we have in progress will allow us to bring products to market that will set a new bar in terms of quality, functionality, and consumer safety,” said Canopy Growth Chief Technology Officer Peter Popplewell in a press release.

What does it mean to you, the end users?

This hopefully means further innovation from Storz and Bickel and Canopy in the vaporization technology space and ultimately better and more reliable products.

We have been expecting a new portable vape from Storz and Bickel and a product in wax and liquid vaporization category.

Both of these might happen under the new ownership.

Storz and Bickel founders, Markus Storz and Jurgen Bickel have been reported to remain part of the company, so hopefully, Storz and Bickel will keep innovating and developing new products and technologies.
