Why would you need a stainless steel cooling unit?

The Mighty and Crafty vapes are loved by many users around the world. Nevertheless, we have heard from many members of our VapeFuse Community that they wish the cooling unit lasted longer. Also, some vapers are concerned about plastic in their vapor path in the first place.

Storz and Bickel use food-grade plastic and all of their product is made in Germany to high European Union standards. Having said that, some of you simply prefer stainless steel in your vapor path to plastic.

After all, we are all entitled to our own preferences and if you prefer a stainless steel cooling uint, you can have it.

French Touch Vaporizers has made a stainless steel cooling unit to fit the Mighty and another one for the Crafty and Crafty+. Let’s go through them both.

The Storz & Bickel Mighty is one of the most popular portable vaporizers ever made. As a result of its popularity, it is inevitable that it receives some constructive (and some not so constructive) criticism. Without a doubt, the plastic cooling unit and mouthpiece are one of the most criticized design features of the Mighty vaporizer.

French Touch Vaporizers addressed this demand with its Stainless Steel Cooling Unit Set for the Mighty.

It includes a stainless steel cooling unit, titanium, and a glass mouthpiece, 5 replacement cooling unit o-rings, 5 replacement mouthpiece o-rings, and 5 replacement coarse screens.

On the original Storz and Bickel Cooling Unit, you have a slide lock, to disassemble to the cooling unit. On the other hand, on this metal one, you simply pull the bottom part out.
You’ll notice that the vapor path of the steel cooling unit is very different from the original vapor path.

The vapor path is a lot shorter and simpler on the stainless steel cooling unit. The combination of the changed vapor path length and material does seem to make a noticeable difference in the taste of the vapor. I also noticed a little difference between using the titanium and the glass mouthpieces.

It is hard to say it the taste is better or just different, however, it is definitely noticeably different. The stainless steel cooling unit with the titanium mouthpiece seems to produce the hottest vapor for me. Despite being hot, it is very tasty though. Being hotter makes it harsher on the throat, however, it is very clean tasting vapor indeed.

The glass mouthpiece doesn’t heat up as much as the titanium for me, however, vapor quality is also exceptionally nice with a lot of flavors.

The metal cooling unit for the Crafty and Crafty+ comes with the same kit as the Mighty one. In a similar fashion, it includes the Cooling Unit, titanium, and glass mouthpieces. 5 replacement o-rings for the cooling unit as well as for the mouthpiece and 5 replacement coarse screens.

The vapor path is also quite different from the original cooling unit, although it may not be as simplified as the one for the Mighty.

Conclusion

If you ever wanted to try a stainless steel cooling unit, this is your chance. I personally always been ok with the plastic one, never had issues with it. Cleaning it is a pain in the neck, however, the stainless steel won’t make it that much easier. Perhaps you can soak it in isopropyl alcohol longer and clean it a little quicker, but not a huge difference.

The units themselves are looking great on both vaporizer, however, they do add on a fair a bit of extra weight.

I have to admit they look very cool, no doubt about that. They are most likely going to last significantly longer than a plastic cooling unit as well. Taste is a little different, I’d say a little better, however by a margin that is more like personal preference.

The Mighty and Crafty vaporizers already produce great tasting vapor, so for me, the SS Cooling Unit is more of a cool-looking accessory than a game-changer.
