10 Unknown Myths About Vaping (DEBUNKED!)

An E-cigarette is a relatively new market entrant that has gained massive popularity amongst smokers who would like to quit smoking.

Total retail sales in the US accounted for $3.8-billion in 2018. Similarly, the vaping wholesale US market is also flourishing at a noticeable rate.

Similar to any other new product in a market, many myths also circulate vaping. Some people call it mysterious, while others consider it an activity that can seriously harm one’s health.

But what is the truth?

If you’re looking to quit smoking and planning to switch to e-cigarettes, you have come to the right place.

In this post, we’ll be debunking the 10 unknown myths about vaping so that you can indulge in the safe and healthy alternative to conventional cigarettes without any reservations.

Myths About Vaping

1. E-Liquids are Mysterious

You might have heard from others that e-cigarettes are strange and mysterious. Some people even claim that they are more dangerous than traditional cigarettes as at least you know what’s in your regular cigarette. But it could be ‘anything’ stuffed in e-cigarettes.

These words are enough to scare anyone and keep them away from vaping.

E-cigarettes contain four ingredients – vegetable glycerin, artificial flavoring, propylene glycol, and nicotine (optional).

Interestingly, we consume most of these ingredients in our everyday items except for nicotine (optional). So you see, there is nothing so mysterious about the ingredients.

2. E-Cigarettes are Not Regulated

Incorrect!

The general misconception about vaping is that it is not regulated, and anyone can buy e-cigarettes without the hassle.

The fact is that you have to be an adult to buy an e-cigarette (even from an online store).

The FDA regulates e-cigarettes and categorizes them into the same class as regular cigarettes (makes no sense).

3. E-Cigarettes Can Explode

Sadly, there have been a few cases reported in the past where vaping devices have exploded. But the cause was the mishandling of the battery and not the device itself.

Noticeably, only 25 such cases have been reported during 2009 and 2014. These cases involved outdated device models or devices that have been misused by the users.

Users buying or building these devices must use regulated parts only.

4. Vaping Does Not Help Smokers Quit

According to research, “an overwhelming majority of vapers are ex-smokers.”

While some people claim that vaping does not help smokers quit, the fact is that many smokers witness a decline in their smoking habits when they switch to e-cigarettes.

5. Vaping is Worse than Smoking

There is no evidence that vaping is worse than cigarettes. If you carefully examine reports published by Public Health England, you’ll come to know that vaping is 95% safer than smoking.

E-cigarettes contain 3 or 4 ingredients. As mentioned above, we use those ingredients in plenty of our daily use items as well. Cigarettes, on the other hand, include different toxic chemicals.

Another study conducted by Dr. Konstantinos Farsalinos clearly states that e-cigarettes are healthier than conventional cigarettes.

6. Vaping will Give You Popcorn Lung

Another myth about vaping that has gained ground in the anti-vaping community is ‘vaping will give you popcorn lung’.

It is a condition people get after being exposed to a chemical called diacetyl.

An e-cigarette contains not more than 9 mg of diacetyl, which isn’t harmful at all. In fact, it is nothing when compared to 6781 mg of diacetyl a smoker is being exposed to daily.

7. Nicotine is the Major Cause of Cancer

Not all e-cigarettes are created alike. It’s up to you whether you choose an e-cigarette with or without nicotine.

Even if you use e-cigarettes with nicotine, it does not, in fact, cause cancer. Many studies prove this fact.

Unlike conventional cigarettes that contain thousands of cancer-causing chemicals, the e-cigarette is definitely a healthier alternate.

8. Vaping Causes You to Inhale Formaldehyde

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine claims that e-cigarettes cause users to inhale formaldehyde.

The results, however, are highly questionable.

First and most importantly, the research didn’t take into account the fact that most vapors will stop when they reach dry-hit conditions.

Because of many flaws in the final research outcomes, the study is not taken seriously by most of the proficient scientists and researchers.

9. E-Cigarettes are Packed with Carcinogens

Hypothetically speaking, conventional cigarettes are much more loaded with carcinogens than electronic cigarettes.

This is one of the facts that compel health-conscious smokers to switch to e-cigs as they are a healthier alternative to harmful regular cigarette variations.

10. Vaping Produces Clouds of Vapor

Well, it depends.

Many vapers intentionally opt for a sub-ohm vaping style that enables them to produce huge clouds of vapor.

But you can always choose another style if you don’t like to vape that way. For instance, you can vape a PG e-liquid that produces little to no vapors. So, it all comes down to your choice.
