Flowermate Cross Vaporizer Review

Flowermate has recently launched its latest vaporizer to the market, the Flowermate Cross with dual vaporizing functions.

As you may know, Flowermate used to make herbal vaporizers only and built a solid fan base around the world. Herbal vaporizers like the V5 OX and V5 Os series are used an loved by thousands of people around the world.

Following the popular trend, they have been venturing into concentrate vaporizers lately. For instance, the Flowermate Team has been busy bringing devices like the Complex and the S30 and S50 mods to the market.

The Flowermate Hybrid X was the first vape to combine a dry herb vaporizer with a 510 thread. A dry herb vaporizer and a box mod in one.

The Cross is another step into this direction, combining dry herb and wax vaporization technology into a single device.

The design of the Cross is following the lines of the Flowermate V5 Nano herbal vape, that our team loves here at VapeFuse. The Cross is a well designed and a quite ergonomic vaporizer. It fits nicely into the hand and feels like a quality device.

We have received early access to the Flowermate Cross and we’ve been testing it for quite a few weeks now. Below I share how we found the Cross to be performing so far.

First Impression of the Flowermate Cross Dual Vaporizer

The Flowermate Cross makes a quite good first impression. It is beautifully packaged and comes across as a quality product.

The Cross has two ceramic heating chambers on each side of the unit. A deep ceramic chamber for dry herbs on one end and a shallower concentrate chamber on the other.

You can access the chambers by lifting the magnetic flip doors.  To make it easy, they are marked with specific icons for herbs and wax.

You can pack either chamber depending on what you’d like to vape. The Cross comes with a glass mouthpiece with silicone o-rings that you can plug into either chamber.

Next, let’s have a quick look at what’s included in the kit.

What’s in the Box of the New Cross?

As most Flowermate vaporizers, the Cross comes with some cool stuff. Things like a carry pouch and generous replacement screens and o-rings will impress most.

Here is the full list of what’s included in the kit:

  • 1 x Flowermate Cross Dual-function Vaporizer
  • 1 x Carry Pouch
  • 1 x USB Charging Cable
  • 1 x Band and Snap Dab Tools Card
  • 1 x Glass Mouthpiece
  • 1 x Cleaning Brush
  • 1 x Warranty Card
  • 1 x Quick Guide (users manual)
  • 4 x Replacement Silicone O-rings
  • 5 x Replacement Stainless Steel Screens

What Comes with the Vaporizer

The Tool Card is a metal card with 4 handy dabbing tools that you can simply push out. Here is what it looks like.

Let’s move onto firing the Cross up.

How to Use the Flowermate Cross

Your vaporizer will come charged in the box, however, it is best practice to put it on the charger before the first use. You’ll find the USB port on the concentrate chamber end of the vape. Plug it in and let it charge fully.

Micro USB charging port

Once your Cross is fully charged, it is time to load your chamber. You can vaporize dry herbs or concentrates.

To change between Celsius and Farenheight, simply press both, the + and – buttons at the same time for a second or so.

I’ll go through both processes one by one. Let’s start with vaping dry herbs.

Vaporizing Dry Herbs

First up, open the herb chamber and pack your dry ground herbs. The herb chamber is marked with a cannabis leaf icon and has holes on the bottom. Don’t pack the chamber too tight, make sure you allow for the mouthpiece base on the top.

Once you packed your dry herbs, turn your vaporizer on by pressing the power button 5 times in a row. You’ll hear a short 1-second vibration as your vape turns on. The OLED display is on the herb chamber side. After turning the vaporizer on, it will give you the option to choose which chamber to heat up.

Herb vaporizing mode
Toggle to the herb icon using the + and – buttons and press the power button twice in a row. Finally set your desired temperature and wait for about 30 seconds for the vaporizer to heat up.

You’ll see the battery level, temperature and a 5 minutes session timer on the digital display. After your 5 minutes session is up,  the Cross will shut off automatically. You can simply press the button 5 times again and start from the beginning.

Vaporizing Concentrates

Open the wax chamber and add about a rice grain size concentrate into your chamber. Remember, your concentrate chamber has no holes on the bottom.

Loading the concentrate chamber with wax

Once you are done adding your concentrate, press the power button 5 times in a row to turn the device on. The Cross will vibrate once powered up and offer you to choose which chamber to heat. Navigate to the wax icon using the + or – button and press the power button twice in a row.

As soon as you’ve done that, you’ll see a red dot flashing on the screen on the wax chamber side.

The red dot is indicating that the chamber is heating up. It turns to green and the Cross vibrates in a few seconds to let you know its ready to go. Press the power button and inhale while you are pressing it.

As opposed to vaping dry herbs, you have to press the power button while you are vaping concentrates. You have a 15 seconds window before the heating element cuts off. You can simply press and hold the button again to keep vaping.

Our Thoughts on the Cross

We have used most Flowermate vaporizers and have been impressed with most of them. However, can a hybrid vape really be good at both of its functions?  We expected the Cross to be very good with herbs as most Flowermate dry herb vapes are. But we didn’t know what to expect in regards to its concentrate mode…

After using the Cross for about 4 weeks now on regular bases, we were quite surprised.

Firstly, we were surprised as the Cross is a lot better concentrate vaporizer than we thought it would be. It does a great job at vaping waxes and produces great tasting vapor. It heats up quickly and performs quite reasonably on battery life as well.

Secondly, we were surprised as it performed a little bit below our expectations as a dry herb vaporizer. We expected a similar performance to the Nano V5 but it does not meet that mark. We got less than expected clouds and the taste isn’t up there either.

As a result, we recommend the Cross as a concentrate vape that can do herbs, but herbs are clearly not its strength.

Finally, let’s list some pros and cons for you:

Pros:
– Beautifully designed from a well-known and trusted brand
– Nice big buttons, easy to operate
– Very good at vaping concentrates

Cons:
– Herb vaping function needs a little improvement
– Glass mouthpiece has to be carried with the device as a separate item

I hope this helps to decide if the Flowermate Cross is for you. Feel free to let us know in the comments section below if you have any questions or if you have any experience using the Cross to share with us.

Chris

I have been vaporizing herbs for many years and working for VapeFuse in Australia and Europe. I try every vaporizer and fortunate enough to have this as part of my job. I feel like I am living the dream. I love to hear from other vapers, so always feel free to comment on my posts. Keep on vaping.

  1. Hi Chris. I’m a newbie to Vaping cannabis and have a question or 2 if that’s ok. Im comparing a duple of vapes. The Flowermate Hybrid X, the Boundless CF and the Pax 2. I’ve done a fair bit of research on the 3, build quality, convection/conduction hybrid, what what the 3 do and dont do. My question is. What 1 out of the 3 would you say had the best bang for your bud and better vaping quality? I’m a little reluctant to get 1 that burns the herb during the session time and wastes herb.

    • Hello Michael, thank you for your comment. All 3 vaporizers you looked at are quite different style 🙂 The Hybrid X is 510 threaded, so if you are not vaping oil or e-juice that might not be fully utilized. The PAX 2 is not a really good vape for a regular cannabis user in my opinion. Very little vapor and many other reasons, we have some posts about PAX reviews on VapeFuse, we are not huge fans. Boundless CF little bulky, large herb chamber. They are all quite different and at the end of the day it comes down to your personal preferences. I suggest you post this in our Community Forum as well and get opinions from others as well, so you can make the best decision.

  2. Thanks for the review Chris. I got here because I just tried my Cross on dry herb and was disappointed and wanted to find a review to see if I was doing something wrong. Sad the cross is not really that great on dry herb. Clouds are very wispy even at the highest temperature.

    • Hello Robert, thank you for sharing your situation and I am sorry to hear that the Cross was disappointing with dry herbs for you as well. I had very high expectations as I used all previous Flowermate vapes and really like them. I even like the Swift Pro that many people don’t. All the best with your vaping journey.
